German Murillo

German Murillo is an artist based in multicultural spaces.

From early ages he started exploring the colors of the tropics through studies of architecture, native music and folk dances. Photography brought him into deeper contact with the people and sociological situations through the lens of photojournalism, which along got him in touch with the arts of the whole world, specially the scenic arts, which he portrayed extensively.

His more structured career as graphic designer put him inside mainstream advertising agencies, a great school not just for the rising art of digital imagery at the time, but also for typography, color management, book creation, resourcefulness and collaborations with creative directors and other fellow artists. He regularly presents and collaborates in art exhibitions. His main inspiration comes from natural design, where rocks, trees, roots and branches, interacting in the elements and changing with the seasons are major subjects. Digital, analog, historic, or alchemic photographic processes may be expected.

The immersion in digital art creates another exploration opportunity for German by means of the creation of visual presentations, the art of telling stories through sequences of elements in motion, to deliver a clear message to a specific audience, usually presented on flat screens. It is a golden opportunity where his studies on psychology and visual perception play a prevailing role in the creation of utilitarian or functional art. Impact with minimalism might be his leading direction when creating the concept for a presentation.

For German, art has evolved beyond the two-dimensionality of the rectangular format, into the more sculptural creation of scale models and dioramas. Scenes of natural wonder, fictional landscapes, beings and vehicles from different worlds who tell stories. Non existent worlds become realities that can be lit and captured on camera to later be transformed again into photographic art. His creations are often enriched with the use of the art of collage. You may say it is the multiculturality of art.

“I love art”, German says, “I always have, but I give my top priority to be a nice human being, an honest person, to be a kind husband, and an out of this world dad.”

SERVICES

DIORAMAS AND
SCALE MODELS

Scale models and dioramas are used more often than meets the eye. On the set of most movies and many commercials, directors use scale models to create immortal scenes, impossible to replicate with live shots. Museums and galleries display some of the most spectacular exhibits in or around dioramas, taking us to different dimensions. Whether a replica of your favorite car, truck, tractor or that special aircraft you flew in the past, a scale model on the shelf bring to life those memories parked on a special corner of your story.

CONCEPT AND
ILLUSTRATION

I work digital and touchable illustrations. I use the digital space to create ethereal worlds born out of my mind. I lean on tridimensional models and environments I built, blending reality and fantasy. For my collage illustrations I use papers made or colored in-house, giving each project a very particular look and feeling. This illustrations retain the textures and warmness of the papers and other surfaces, adding ambience to the final result by the shades and crevasses of overlapped layers.

RESUME

You are about to download a 19 pages résumé.

It is not a literary work. If it were, it would be written in Spanish, my native language. This document is intended to relate my experience and expertise; it was originally made as a book. It was supposed to be shared in person. But the pandemic came, and we must do it online. You see, most companies ask for a résumé when they want to hire the right candidate. Well, I’m not a résumé kind of guy. Primary, because a résumé cannot tell a person’s experience as his experiences do, what nurtures one’s experience can’t be written into a piece of paper planned to be read by a machine.

To make it easier, I have two versions of my -not too short- résumé. You may choose just one. If you are a busy person, a highly organized human resources recruiter, talent scout, or just a person who likes the bulleted kind of lists, you should download the black pages. If you enjoy stories or have nothing else to do today, you can read through the white pages; both sets of pages are telling the same story. My humble and probably uninteresting story.

Thank you for get reading this far (so far).
